Kerrington's Birthday

Saturday March 21st was our 39th week. We had one week to go, but it turned out that our precious angel wanted to be with us a little sooner! I worked the day before at the hospital, so when I got home, Drew and I ate dinner and I fell asleep on the couch. We went up to bed around 10:30. I had been sick this past week so Drew was in the other room sleeping because I was snoring so bad! At 3:41 in the morning, I woke up to what I thought was my water breaking. I went to the bathroom, and called the doctor. Dr. Ruchhoft was on for the weekend and she suggested that we come into the hospital in the next few hours.

After that phone call, Drew starting packing the car while I showered and got ready to leave. We left for the hospital around 4:45. In the car on the way, my water broke again, and we were sure it was baby day! At the hospital, I was checked to see if I had really broken my water, and once it was confirmed, I had an IV started as well as Pitocin to get the contractions going. 2cm dilated.

We were in room, and by 8:00 I was having regular contractions and asked for an epidural. I was 4cm dilated. By 10:40 I reached 8cm and the nurse didn't think it would be too much longer. She didn't call my doctor though because they don't like to be called until the patient is completely dilated.

During this time I was still feeling some pain and discomfort on the right side of my body. The nurse anesthesist had to come and give me extra doses through my epidural to ease some of the pain. By 11:45 I was feeling some pressure so the nurse checked me and I was almost complete, with just a small amount of cervix left. She called the doctor.

At 12:30 I was in a ton of pain and needed to push, but no doc in sight! The nurse set the room up and called for back up doctors. She said I could push a little if it helped. When the two resident doctors came in the room, they set up and said I could push. Just two pushes later, our little girl came into this world at 12:47!!! I don't think the doctors knew we weren't finding out the sex, because no one shouted out what she was! I looked down and said, " Is it a girl? It's a girl!" We couldn't have been happier!!!

Our lil babe was cleaned up, weighed and measured, and had her footprints done and was ready to mee the famiy soon after.

The rest of the day was spent switching to the post partum unit, and visiting with eager friends and family. It's such a whirlwind already! I can't beleive our liitle girl is already 3 days old!

Many, many more updates and pics to come!
