Happy 18 Months Kerrington Leigh!

Kerrington! You are 18 months old today! I can't believe it! Well, I suppose I can, you are definitely acting like an 18 month old these days. You are sweet as can be most of the time... but you definitely have your moments where your daddy and I don't know what we'll do with you. For instance, in the picture above you're eating a Popsicle. If I let you, you'd eat 4 a day. You are adorable...you run up to the freezer and yell "ice" and just hold on to the handle. I really don't think you need more than one a day, or one at 9:30 in the morning either so you often will get pretty upset if I tell you no.

You absolutely love being outside. You'll go up to the door to our back yard and say "side" which your word for 'outside'. It's still HOT outside here in Savannah, but a little bit more bearable than earlier this summer, so we'll usually go outside for awhile after your afternoon nap. You just started calling to Ollie. You'll yell his name and then say "mon" and wave your little fingers. You're telling him to 'come on'. It made me realize that you are starting to boss him around and your little brother is in for it!

You try to copy every word you hear these days. It's really cute. When I ask you to say 'slide' that also comes out as 'side'. If I ask you if you want to got down the slide you will shake you head down toward the ground just once. You also just learned (in the past week) the word "no". I was really surprised it took you this long to figure this one out. When you say it though, you say ' no, no, no, no". Not just once, what a silly girl!

You're starting to get picky with eating. The other night you ate two (maybe) bites of dinner. I'm learning to just be okay with you not eating as much and realizing that you'll survive until breakfast! Later that night we were at bible study and you were begging anyone that would give you eye contact to give you some cake you saw on the counter. It was pretty funny. You have 'poopied' in the potty two times! So far you're not consistent with it, but whenever you see us on the potty you want to wipe and throw a piece of toilet paper in the toilet and flush it. I'm not going to push you with this, I'll let you discover and learn for awhile and see how things go.

You love other kids, especially ones that are a little bigger than you are. You also can hold your own with them. You usually don't get too upset when we drop you off for class at church and your teachers say that you are good for them. I worry sometimes because I'm afraid they'll tell me that you tried to bite a kid. From what I've noticed, you don't do it to be mean, you're usually just 'playing'. We're doing our best to teach you not to do that though! You also love babies. I'm not sure how you'll react when your brother comes and he is here all the time, but for now you just love looking at them and pointing to their eyes (yikes!).

You are sleeping in your big girl bed! Although, the past couple of days I have put you in the crib for your afternoon nap because you have just learned to crawl out of your bed. Last night we put a gate out to the hallway because I was afraid you would get out in the middle of the night. You didn't, but we heard you get out of your bed in the morning. You went up to the gate first and said hi to Ollie, but once we called your name, you came walking into our room. It was pretty cute! You are using your pacifier for bedtime and naps. I was thinking about trying to get rid of them, but I don't think either of us are ready to deal with that yet. I don't want you to be 4 and still have a pacifier, I think I might try when you're a bit closer to 2.

Tomorrow we have your 18 month check up. I am really excited to see what you weigh and how tall you've gotten. It's been three months since our last check up so I know you've grown! I'll have to update tomorrow your latest statistics. Right now you're fitting into a wide range of clothes. I still have a few 12 month clothes, but you're mostly in 18 to 24 month and some 2T things. You're in a size 5-6 shoe. We had to buy you size 6 sneakers for the fall so that with a sock, the strap would Velcro to the other side!
People still always comment on how cute your legs are. They think your rolls are just so cute! You definitely still have some, but they are getting less and less. I do have to agree though, they are pretty cute. Recently you had an aversion to taking baths (by yourself at least) and you had been either taking showers with mommy or daddy or taking a bath with mommy. You did although enjoy taking a bath tonight at grandmas by yourself.
You are such a joy to your mommy and daddy. Like I said, you're certainly becoming more of a challenge these days as we enter the 'terrible two' stage, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I thank God for you each day, and pray that your daddy and I can be good parents for you and guide you into a relationship with Jesus. They days are nearing that you will no longer be the only child/grandchild and although it will probably be stressful at first, I can't wait to see your relationship develop with your little brother. I love you so much Kerrington Leigh Humphreys. You make my day, every single day, with your sweet smile and bubbly personality. Thank you for blessing our lives.
