Well, we seem to have a yearly tradition with Kerrington. Breaking bones. Yeah, not the type of tradition I'd ever hope to start. If you're wondering how this tradition started, let me take you back to January 2010. Kerrington was a mere 10 months old. Our baby had her leg rolled over on my our humongo dog and she got a spiral fracture. Luckily, she was healed within a week or two.
Let's move forward 1 year and about 5 months. In late June 2011, Kerrington flipped out of a buggy at Publix and smacked her head on the floor. This, obviously, was a much more substantial injury and required a stay in the hospital. We were extremely anxious that our girl was hurt, but praising God that His had was with her, and of course, she came away from that injury with no lasting side effects.
So, here we are, July 2012. We were just 1 year and about 14 days out of her last injury. Wednesday night, Drew had the kids out shopping for my birthday while I was at a get-together for MOPs. It was a pure accident (as was all the others), but she fell running around the van to get to the stroller (she wanted to push her brother). She fell, right on her shoulder. Drew said she cried instantly and was pretty hard to console. I honestly thought there was no way we could be going through this again, and really, really didn't want to spend the rest of the night in the ER. I knew (from my experience) that if she had really hurt something (like her collarbone), that there wasn't much they could do that night, so we decided to wait out the night, and if she still hurt in the morning, we'd take her to the doctor.
Morning time came (she slept in our bed just so we could keep her an eye on her) and she still was in pain. We get to the doctor, go get an x-ray, and of course, our poor baby has broken her collar bone. After a visit with the orthopedic doctor, we were given a sling, and instructions to not use her left arm for 4 weeks. If we could keep her immobilized for that long, she can have it off!
So, here we are...for the next four weeks! We are up for the challenge!
We've determined that this girl is just plain clumsy! We hope to BREAK (pun intended) this tradition next year...
